Monday, 7 January 2008 - (Sydney, NSW) After the recently contested USA Top Fuel Invasion event at Western Sydney International Dragway and the lessons learnt from it, the track Administration and board would like to confirm that the 2008 USA Top Fuel Invasion will return to the original Boxing Day date of Friday, December 26 & Saturday, December 27.
"After discussing the matters with Tony Beuk and the WSID board, I can confirm that the USA Top Fuel event will return to Boxing Day in 2008," remarked WSID Chairman Jim Read. "We learnt some hard lessons about the fickle Sydney weather, the time of year to run such an event and also what the general public prefer in relation to timing of this event."
It is also fair to say a number of unforseen curve balls were thrown at the WSID venue last season in preparing for the International Top Fuel showdown, which in previous years has produced world-class performances - capped by USA NHRA star Scott Kalitta producing a world-class 4.517 second elapsed time effort at almost 333 miles per hour.
"Some external factors caught us out last season in terms of advance securing of the drivers for this event. I can confirm that this year our intention is to announce the visiting drivers for the USA Invasion far earlier in the year."
So mark those dates in your diary - Boxing Day Friday and Saturday in 2008 for USA Top Fuel warfare!
