2007 A C Delco Countdown To Go - Darren Morgan

Tuesday, 7 August 2007 - (Sydney, NSW) Speaking to former Australian Top Fuel Champ Darren Morgan as an imposing new Top Fuel team is being constructed around him ready to roar at the season opening ACDelco East Coast Nationals at Western Sydney International Dragway, you sense he is still amazed he has the privilege to pilot a 8,000 horsepower Nitromethane beast, let alone the fact that it appears that his new team could well be one of the most impressive and imposing operations in Australian Drag Racing!

"Everything here is going outstanding. I still sit here really and I am in a bit of shock that everything is happening so well for us. David (Thwaites - Sponsorship & Media Mananger) tells me its because I deserve it, sometimes I wonder," grinned Morgan on reflection of his new 'DMR' racing operation, that has certainly impressed all and sundry with it's professional PR approach so far, including a topline website presence, concept artwork and more that should have all fans on the edge of the seats at WSID come Friday, August 31st!

Morgan is a proud Mildura native, who lives and loves life in Victoria's Sunraysia district and it was from within locally that the impetus and implementation came to mount what is an impressive racing organization.

"I Spoke to Colin Beasley (Morgan's cousin) about the possibilities of running my own team over the past year or so. Colin is a very successful businessman here and we then spoke to some notable people in the Mildura area further developing the concept with a strong local focus and with 12 of the biggest local businesses now from around here sponsoring us, I feel proud and honoured to be associated with such a strong business community down here as we set a path forward to contest the Australian Top Fuel Championship."

Colin Beasley is a notable Sprintcar driver and successful businessman in the Sunraysia area and it's obvious his input to the DMR operation has been significant.

Add to that the fact that Beasley will now take up the reigns as the team's crew chief!

"Col is brand new to this side of motorsport but he likes it and the level of precision required in Top Fuel racing is an exciting eye opener to him".

The 'Wicked Quick' team has a nice mix and match it seems of the crew Morgan has had at his disposal in the past, as well as some handy recent inclusions.

When quizzed on last season's spasmodic racing opportunities in Top Fuel, Morgan would not entertain that it was a frustrating time for him as a former national champ.

"I enjoyed various aspects of last season, I was happy to get the driving opportunities we did anyway. I really enjoyed the time with the Jim Read racing operation and honestly, there was a chance we could have still partnered with them with this deal, that's how much I enjoyed my time there. However we seem to have made good steam on our own regardless and we look forward to the future as a new team."

The Wicked Quick Apparel sponsored team certainly has the inventory to withstand the brutal cut and thrust of Nitro Top Fuel action, where these cars frequently exceed speeds of 500kmh for the quarter mile and traversing the distance comfortably under 5-seconds!

"We really do have the best of everything with this team. Pretty much the whole package is brand spanking new.

We have a new trailer and awning which looks real kick ass.

I look around the workshop now and have 7 pairs of cylinder heads, 4 complete ready to go fully assembled engines, 2 cannons, 2 reversers, 2 front wings, 2 injection systems, 3 blowers, 2 manifolds and all to be slotted into a brand new Hadman chassis with a 1-piece carbon fibre body. It does look and I am sure it will go Wicked Quick," Morgan exclaimed.

Even in terms of race-team prep, impressive purchases like a brand new Clutch Grinder from the USA have the team razor-sharp ready for the season ahead as the renaissance of Top Fuel in Australia continues in full haste!

So with a new ground-up team formed for the upcoming ACDelco East Coast Nationals - what is Morgan's aspirations at the 2007-2008 Australian Championship Drag Racing opener at WSID?

"We will be testing and racing at the same time obviously as it's the first real hitout for the car and team, however we have got state of the art data-loggers ready to go at WSID and we are confident of getting up to speed quickly out there.

Top Fuel in this country is getting really strong and I am just so excited that I have such a strong team and car package, awesome support from the core of the Mildura business community to really have a big go at it."

Morgan was predictably coy on ET and Speed predictions at the ACDelco event.

"Our mission is to just run it as hard as we can, we have made a commitment to each other to really chase this hard and give it our best. If we achieve that, success will just be the bonus."

There is no question that DMR racing is showing the on-going development seen in Australian Professional Drag Racing, with a slick approach to the team's presentation and preparation so far.

"Wicked Quick Apparel were great in helping us with some design concepts for the car and Brett Jackson, Dave Thwaites have all been great too in making this project exciting. The Merchandise angle is going to be a head turner as well.

We are all keen to go racing now, we fire up the car for the first time later this week which should be fun because it isn't until you apply clutch in these babies as to when all hell can start to break loose! Everyone involved are as keen as hell to go racing at the ACDelcos. one guy has got his pilot's license earlier than planned down here just so he can fly the crew around the country and see us chase our dreams!"

Darren Morgan appears set to be one Wicked Quick dream weaver, come the ACDelco East Coast Nationals!
