WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (June 15, 2011) – In the spring of 2010 Nitro Jam made its debut at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City.
Also making their Nitro Jam debut that same sunny afternoon in the mountains of Utah was Nitro Funny Car pilot Mark Sanders, better known in the racing world as “Mr. Explosive.”
Sanders swept both days of the Salt Lake Nitro Jam in 2010
Two days and two thrilling races later both Rocky Mountain Raceways and the thrilling “Mr. Explosive” were suddenly household names in the IHRA.
Not only did the debut event at RMR bring out record crowds and produce incredible racing, but that same weekend the loud, exciting and over-the-top Sanders swept the new Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car category and began his quest to become Nitro Jam’s next big star.
And so far, Sanders has done just that.
“We are pumped up and ready to head south to Salt Lake,” said Sanders, a native of the great northwest state of Washington. “I can’t wait to get out there and put the pedal to the medal and put this car back in victory lane.”
With two wins already this season, Sanders is looking to keep his winning ways alive in Utah
Now, one year later, the Mr. Explosive Racing Team is heading back to Utah this weekend to defend their back-to-back titles at the Salt Lake Nitro Jam with the momentum of two wins already this year. And with one month since their last action, Sanders and his 21-year-old son and crew chief Jake are ready to hit the track and continue their winning ways at RMR.
"The car is ready to go and the team will be looking for a repeat performance in Utah this weekend,” said Jake Sanders.
This trip from the Washington to Salt Lake City will be the first part of a two weekend excursion with the IHRA Nitro Jam series that will take the team south to Utah and then back up north to Edmonton, Canada for the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals, June 24-26 at Castrol Raceway. Salt Lake is the sixth stop for the Mr. Explosive Nitro Funny Car team during the 2011 season, which is the half way point of their busy racing schedule.
Don’t miss Utah’s biggest drag race this Friday and Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways
Sanders and his boisterous personality are always on hand to entertain the fans and sign autographs during the Nitro Jam FanFest pit party and between rounds so make sure to stop by and meet Nitro Jam’s most “explosive” personality and pick up a Mr. Explosive temporary tattoo and other merchandise.
The Salt Lake Nitro Jam will be held June 17-18 at Rocky Mountain Raceways. For tickets and event information please visit Home Page - NitroJam. For more information about Mr. Explosive Racing visit Home.
