BUDDS CREEK, Md. (September 30, 2007) - The Torco Race Fuels President's Cup Nationals may prove to be the defining race for the 2007 IHRA Top Fuel World Championship. If it's not the defining race for the championship, it is the defining career race for the PEAK Antifreeze / O'Reilly Auto Parts / Zizzo Racing team.
"I think I can speak for our entire team on this one," TJ said. "This was the biggest day in our drag racing carreers."
Zizzo and his PEAK team made clutch runs defeating Litton's team car, driven by Jeff O'Neill and then Litton in the semi-final round. Defeating team Litton would open up a slim 26 point lead for Zizzo as the team heads to the World Finals in Rockingham, North Carolina.
"It's not a huge lead," Zizzo said. "But I'd rather have 26 points in the bank than be 26 points behind at this point in the season."
Zizzo would make his fifth final round appearance when he faced defending IHRA champion Clay Millican. "I staged the car a little deeper that I wanted to", Zizzo explained after the race. "I was holding on to that brake for dear life. It was a good drag race. We were right there with him. If his car would have hiccuped at all we were there to take the win. But, Clay and his guys did a great job so congratulations to them."
The runner-up finish would give the PEAK / O'Reilly Top Fuel Dragster a little breathing room going into Rockingham, where the final race will decide the outcome. "Bruce and I have become friends this year and we've been back and forth with the lead all year long. It will come down to the last guy still racing in Rockingham."
