[coverattach=1]John Zappia and his Striker Monaro headed down to the local Kwinana Motorplex last weekend to continue testing at the Top Alcohol event, and five quick passes in succession where the result. John Zappia really has his "Zap's Rat" tuned in and very consistent this year, giving warning signals to other teams in Top Doorslammer that he will be hard to beat.

Zap finished fourth in qualifying in the Top Comp Eliminator, with a stout 5.990et @ 241.28mph netting him a 0.470 under the 6.460 index for the Top Doorslammer class. First two passes on the Friday night were 6.045 @ 238.09mph, and 6.021 @ 239.36mph - a typical Zappia buildup for an event.

"The 5.990 was in 3,000 feet corrected air, and that is pretty impressive" said Zap, "The amount of water in the air was high, and that usually drags down the performance of all engines".

First round was up against Anthony Begley in the AA/FC Funny Car, and Zap ran away with the win with a magic 5.967 @ 242.58mph against Begley's 6.416 @ 220.04mph.

The computations for the A and B Final were worked out, and the index's meant Zap had an A Final match up against Maurice Brennan's AA/AP Commodore who was running personal bests on a 6.69 index this meeting.

"The car was responding so consistently to our changes, I was really happy with our clutch setup, and the final was going to be in our favour".

Zap crossed the finish line in the final ahead of Brennan's 6.416 @ 220.04mph, with a 5.947 @ 242.58mph but left a red light on the Christmas tree; handing the win to his competitor.

"I don't do many red lights, and that was disappointing in one respect; losing a final, but I am so happy with the car and the team and our chances in Sydney are excellent. If it's hot there; we are all set with a hot weather 5 second setup, and if it's cool; we expect to go really quick".

The Zappia Racing Team head back to Sydney for ANDRA Top Doorslammer Round 4 on the 13th - 15th Feb 2009 for the Summernationals at Western Sydney International Raceway, New South Wales. All Sponsors and supporters are welcome to come down to the pits and meet with John and the crew and check out the new range of merchandise. Anyone interested in a sponsorship package is more than welcome to come to the pits to meet John Zappia and discuss options or contact him on 0400 1971 71

Zap and the Striker Monaro lead the Top Doorslammer Championship on 290 points, 30 points ahead of nearest rival Robin Judd, and is looking to extend his lead next meeting.
