This Gwynn/Garlits match race is awesome. The electric cars are replicas of what they ran in 1986. The US Nationals Finals and Motorplex finals were just as exciting as an Al-Anabi/Army final now days..Probably even better.

ESPN better be all over this! It's for a great casue and even though the rivalry was less then 3 years long, it was still one of the best IMO.

Thats one of the coolest things I've ever seen. The rivalry between Big and "The Wolf" is one of my all time favorites. The 86 motorplex race was one of my favorites. I wish I was going to the gators just to see this

The 86 motorplex race was one of my favorites.

Yup.. Gwynn ran 5.26 @ 278  To open the show at the brand new motorplex with a little assist from AA Dale. Garlits seemed to be about a tenth behind all weekend (similar to Indy). Right before the finals there was a rain shower and it changed everything up. Garlits welded the Kid to the tree and pulled away to just about clinch his 3rd NHRA Title.

The only thing that would make them look more "right" are the small front wheels.

Gwynn ran tall front tires in 86.

The front tires on Garlits car look excatly like the spun disks he first used at the 86 Gatornats before he switched to the aircraft type tires due to the bands/belts coming off in the lights.

Cool pictures, Paul.

Who is building these cars? When/where will they run?

Getting to see Darrell make his pass at Reading last year was awesome!

This has to be the coolest idea in the last 10+ yrs. Although Swamp Rat XXX never ran with the Mono Strut, it actually looks like it should've been there all along.

All that work to run electric? What a waste....

It's a similar idea to the car Gwynn ran a few years ago.. You can only do so much with a one handed control lever that has to move, stop, and steer the car easily. What the heck did you expect Joe?
