WORSHAM WILL RACE FROM 9th SPOT ON SUNDAY

Checker, Schuck's, Kragen driver Del Worsham was unable to improve on his Friday night time, and watched his placement in the race field edge downward slightly to the No. 9 spot by the end of the day Saturday. Worsham will face Tony Pedregon in round one.

"We hazed the tires a little in the right lane on the first pass today, and that really didn't surprise me all that much," Worsham said. "The right lane seems a bit more loose out past half-track, and if you're trying to get after it at that point you're might have some traction problems. In the later session today, we were just on the edge of having really good conditions again, so we went ahead and got a little aggressive, but it didn't make it.

"You might remember we decided to be a little conservative on Friday night, making sure we got a good run on the board and got ourselves solidly in the show. During the final session, we decided to go for it a little, and this new clutch program we're working the kinks out of didn't quite react like I thought it would. Instead of smoothing everything out, the clutch got real aggressive on us and just drove us right into tire smoke. I don't how bad the loss of lane choice is going to hurt us, but we'll see. Look at it this way, had we kept our spot, and the lane choice that comes with it, we were probably going to have to run John Force in round one. Instead, we slipped to 9th, lost lane choice and have to race Tony Pedregon. Pick your poison!"
