WORSHAM LANDS 11th FOR RACE DAY

Del Worsham went 1-for-2 on a meteorologically challenging Saturday in Brainerd, with his Q3 run of 4.867 representing an improvement over his Friday best of 4.909. After smoking the tires in Q4, however, Worsham slipped to the 11th spot on the grid, and will face Tim Wilkerson in round one.

"The weather today was crazy, just all over the board, with clouds in the morning, then a little rain, and then the sun came back out for the last session and it was just scalding out there," Worsham said. "On that last run, we just got a little too aggressive, and we obviously didn't do that on purpose, but we were trying to find the limits out there. We hadn't smoked the tires for a lot of runs in a row, and you can get to where you're in love with making it end-to-end, but you don't know where the edge is. Today's first run was the perfect example of that. We made a nice clean run, and a 4.86 was good pass, but some guys came up right after us and they were running 4.81, 4.79, 4.78, and stuff like that. We knew we were short of what the track would hold.

"So on the last one, we had it dialed to run about a 4.83 or so, and we just got a little too aggressive with the clutch a little too early in the run. I don't like smoking the tires on the last run, but at least now we know what the car can do and what it doesn't like when the sun is on the track. We'll try to take all of this and boil it down to the quickest lap we can run, without spinning the tires."
