Worsham 15th after day one

Pomona, Calif. - Del Worsham pedaled his Checker, Schuck's, Kragen Chevy out of early tire shake, but then lifted near half-track on his first run here at Pomona. A few big runs were made on this first day of the 2007 POWERade season (including Robert Hight's class-leading 4.693,) but the majority of the 23 teams in attendance failed to negotiate the full Pomona quarter-mile under power.

"We haven't had tire shake problems at all in preseason testing, but this is the real deal and shake is always an issue out here," Worsham said. "The car washed out a little, to the right, and went into tire shake right as hit got out to the right a little, so there may be some connection there. I know we also had some blower problems on that run, and that will cause you to be down on power, as well. I went ahead and pedaled it, and it hooked right up and was moving down there okay, but I knew we weren't going to put any kind of useful number on the board, so I lifted around half-track. Tomorrow, Top Fuel will go before us, so we'll be on the track closer to 4:30 or 5:00, and the track should be very good. We'll hop it up and shoot for the smallest possible number."
