MEMPHIS, Prerace: For the past several years the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park have been held in August. But when you're in Memphis, Tenn. in mid-August, the heat and humidity tend to be the top story. So, this year the NHRA POWERade Drag Race has been moved to a month later in hopes of more favorable conditions for both man and machine.
Springfield, Ill. Funny Car favorite, Tim Wilkerson looks forward to his machine, the beautiful Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Impala SS performing strong in the hopefully favorable conditions.
"I think we can run well this weekend, if the weather cools a little from the past few years," said Wilkerson. "We have run well here when it's been cooler. So, we have to see what the weather brings us and try to determine how to work on it from there. And perhaps we can rock and roll this weekend."
But whatever the weather this weekend, Wilkerson and his dedicated team will do their best and try to make it all the way to Sunday's celebration.
