Swung by the facility yesterday - two guys working on the staging lane fence and a few cars parked at the office. Other than that . . . nothing. As far as I can tell, renovation of strip surface has not begun. Also, I was told by someone not involved with the facility that the old timing system wiring was beyond repair.
It is interesting that last weeks AZ Republic article said nothing about amenity improvement - just new concrete, timing system and scoreboards. If this place is going to be ready for a national event in ten weeks, it appears that somebody better get their butt in gear.

I was at The Strip at LVMS in February of 2000 and would have bet you ANY amount of money there was no way the facility would be ready for their first event In April 2000. A mere 3 weeks later in the middle of March 2000, I was back for the soft opening (George Marnell doing a few burnouts and a half-track pass in his Pro Stocker) and couldn't believe how much was accomplished in that short time frame and was very glad I didn't owe anybody any money LOL, as all doubts about facility being ready were erased.

My point is, things can come together very quickly in the desert.

Come on.... we could smell the "bathrooms" here in Virginia

I've never been there, but from what I've seen on ESPN, the phrase "polishing a turd" comes to mind

More like Redskin Chic.
Remember this is on Reservation Land and if they wanted it could have been close d at any moment.
Now that the Tribe is more involved in the operation I think the entire complex will be MUCH nicer.

Bruton Smith is in the business of building Racetracks, the Indian casino people have NO interest in Racetracks....unless it brings in Huge Gambling $$$!

Demolition of the track was supposed to start on Nov 25 and the Indian community is dumping quite a bit of money into the track so I think that they have a vested interest in making sure the track will be ready on time.

I'll be out at the track making some runs during the Rockabilly Bash if anybody wants to stop by and say hi.

Word around the pits last weekend is that car/driver entry fees and crew pass costs will be pretty prohibitive...
What did you hear and from whom?
I took my car out on Oct 6 and it cost me $20.00 for me and the car and I could make as many runs as I wanted to. They treated me pretty damn good and will gladly go back.

This looks like a good opportunity to get some pictures in, I'll have to put this on the calendar.

I do not get all the criticism of firebird. Sure I have been to better tracks but have been to a lot worse here in Australia. I had a blast there in 2012, maybe the company I had made it such a great weekend along with the fact it was my second NHRA event and Pomona the week before I was in a state of disbelief so I took more in at firebird. I have very fond memories of the place.

The restrooms at Willowbank here in Australia are as bad if not worse.

I admit we are Spoiled here in the U. S., After seeing the Super Track era unfold like it has, it's easy to dismiss tracks like Phoenix, Atlanta, Indy and Seattle as Dumps!

This is great news for racers and fans of Nhra drag racing. I really look forward to seeing the track when it is finished. Hopefully it will be a top notch facility when they are done with it.
