Instead of being knee-jerk reactionary, NHRA should thoroughly test these ideas for all possible situations. I'd rather have what happened to Robert Hight's car and move the crowd back a few more feet than to have all that pressure (grenade-like) directed right back at the driver.....
NHRA seems to like to tinker with the racing too much, while NASCAR has done more for safety with some smart changes
NHRA:
1000 ft racing
less than stellar track prep for Pro Stockers
throwing weight and rules on the Harleys until they run back of the pack
faulty auto parachute deploy systems possibly determining race results
body latch/tether systems for FC's
NASCAR:
soft walls
cars featuring foam around roll cages, roof flaps to prevent flips
cable-drive remote mount fuel pumps
lucky dog rule during a caution flag
