What the headline has to do with Danica, I have no idea!

Women might always be at a disadvantage in sports where men's size and strength advantage gives them an edge, but in contests where the genders battle largely on skill and courage, women have shown they're not just able to compete, but also to win.

Patrick's breakthrough is just the latest for women in hazardous sports that prided themselves as too tough for girls. It echoes driver Shirley Muldowney's Top Fuel dragster world title in 1977, musher Libby Riddles' victory in Alaska's Iditarod dogsled race in 1985 and jockey Julie Krone's win at the Belmont Stakes in 1993 — all firsts in dangerous, male-dominated sports.

Because Danica's lead was by 5.8594 seconds at the finish line..................................... At least USA Today got it right and labeled her as the first woman to win a major Indy Car race!

Brian Williams said exactly the same thing last night during NBC Nightly News. Nice to see some in the media are reporting Danicas win correctly.

There we go. I have to admit that I have only heard the win refered to as an INDY car win. And good for her!

Let's put a little perspective on this that we understand...

They drove around all day to see an outcome that was based on somebody lighter of foot in the turns having enough fuel to cross the stripe first.

In the same 5.8594 seconds, Hillary Will could have taken a green light, had all five to seven stages of her clutch lock up, gone through over 10 gallons of fuel, hit the laundry and started to think about making the turnoff...All while her competition was still sitting at the starting line.

That would be the margin of victory in a drag race vs. an "exciting" Indy car event... Man, talk about a boring way to know the outcome of a single race!!

When I turned the replay coverage of the event on Sunday morning, there were 13 laps to go and she was 7th! Since I knew the ultimate outcome, I had to watch to see how she managed to win the thing from that far back and that late in the race.

And then, one by one, the cars in front of her came in for fuel. She never "passed" anyone! Yawn.....good for her.

I can't find a link to the article, but our local paper had an article yesterday (not sure if it was nationally written or not) that said something to the effect that Danica was the first women to win a major open-wheel racing event. Much better than some of the other very inaccurate articles that have been written.

I hear ya' Bill, but still, a win is a win. Fuel strategy has always been a big part of roundy-round racing. No matter what, she crossed the stripe first, everyone else had the same opportunity.
