Troy Critchley made a strong run in the only round of qualifying at the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge presented by Tindle Enterprises, Inc. in Houston. His 6.052/240.59 earned the No. 5 provisional spot heading into Saturday.
"I'm pleased with our performance this afternoon," Critchley said. "A 6.05 is better than our No.1 qualifying time of 6.09 last year at this event, so, in all I'm really happy with the way we ran.
"I would have liked to have another shot at it, but I understand that safety is in the front of everyone's minds here after losing Eric Medlen last week. It's kind of strange around here today - not that we're in the middle of the nitro scene, but it's on our minds nonetheless. Hopefully, we'll have another crack at it tomorrow.
"I know there are a lot of folks from AMS coming down for the race tomorrow, so I'm hoping the weather will hold out and that we'll be able to show them all what 'The Jackhammer' is capable of."
