DALLAS (Sept. 23) -- Pro Mod driver Troy Coughlin was pleased with his solid outing at this weekend's 22nd annual Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec at the Texas Motorplex. Coughlin successfully qualified for the AMS Pro Mod Challenge in the No. 15 spot and advanced to a first-round race versus John Russo where he recorded his best pass of the event -- a 6.488 at 226.01 mph. However, Russo won the race, putting Coughlin's twin-turbo JEGS.com Pontiac GTO on the trailer.
"We continue to make progress and that's very encouraging," Coughlin said. "We made three good laps and the car got quicker as the weekend progressed so we accomplished what we set out to do.
"The idea was to get the car to make complete passes without spinning the tires of smoking them off the line. We did that. Now we'll work towards applying the horsepower we're making to the combination so that we can continue to improve our e.t.s."
Coughlin and crew have plans to test extensively before the next NHRA national event, the Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals, which takes place Oct. 5 in Richmond, Va.
"We'll be going to Norwalk (Ohio) or Chicago, depending where the weather is better, and working on this thing some more," Coughlin said. "We're creeping up on it and I continue to be excited about the potential of this racecar. We'll be contenders sooner rather than later and it would be very cool to get it going this season.
"I'd be remiss if I didn't thank my dedicated crew. These guys have stayed so positive throughout this season and they work their butts off. I know they're all as pumped up as I am about what we're doing."
