Steve Torrence found a way Friday to enjoy racing against three other drivers as the second annual Visitmyrtlebeach.com 4-Wide Nationals began at zMAX Dragway: run the sixth-quickest elapsed time of the day.
Torrence, at the controls of the Interstate Batteries/USO-North Carolina Top Fuel dragster, covered the 1,000 feet in 3.856 seconds at 318.69 mph in the second session.
“The car hooked up and stayed hooked up,” Torrence said of the run. “It was a good day. We had a good run going in the first round, too, but the motor dropped a cylinder and torched the cylinder head.”
That run of 3.955 seconds was still seventh-quickest of the session.
“We are starting to get used to four-wide racing . . . and we are looking forward to Saturday’s two runs,” he added. “Rain is expected, and all hope it goes in another direction.”
