POMONA, Calif. – Steve Torrence bounced back Friday from a slow qualifying start to NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, posting a 3.815-second elapsed time at 321.15 mph at Pomona Raceway.

The run moved him from 12th to 10th place in the provisional Top Fuel standings for Sunday’s season-opening 53rd O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals. His first run was 4.037 seconds at 229.12.

“That was the kind of run we would have preferred on Thursday,” Torrence said. “Fortunately, we still have two runs to go on Saturday, and you can bet we will be searching for quicker elapsed times.

“The Capco Contractors Inc. crew figured out where the trouble spots were on Thursday’s lap and eliminated them.

“We have a little bit of a safety net now and we can really stand on it. We want to get into the 3.70-second range and into the top half of the starting 16.
