TORKELSON MOTORSPORTS GAINS MOMENTUM HEADING INTO KANSAS CITY
Homecoming Race for Driver Jim Wiens
KANSAS CITY, MO (August 15, 2007) – Jim Wiens, driver of the Torkelson Motorsports, Aeromotive Fuel Systems Nitro Coupe entry, is excited to be racing his first hometown Super Chevy Show during this weekend’s O’Reilly Super Chevy Show in Kansas City, Missouri. The Nixa, Missouri native has worked long and hard to help turn around the Torkelson Corvette and now, with some major improvement and momentum, the team is looking forward to event wins.
“We had almost a perfect weekend last week at Joliet ,” said Wiens. “On Friday, late in the afternoon, we decided to make just and 1/8 mile pass. There is typically just Wayne Barbara and I working on the car, so we can’t test as much as we want, and we run 20% nitro on this car, so it is expensive to make full runs. We made a very good run, sub - one second 60 foot and 4.01, 178 MPH in the 1/8. To say everyone was very exited would be an understatement; especially since we ran in the hottest part of the day.”
Wiens went on to comment, “During the first qualifying run the car rattled the tires a little in low gear, but I short shifted saved the run. We still went 6.45, which is not bad, but we knew we had more. We made some timing fuel and clutch adjustments, and came back in the hottest part of the day again and ran a 6.20 with another 4.01 in the 1/8 again. We all knew the car was capable of running like this and we were very excited with the results. Cody Barklage
