O’FALLON, MO (May 19, 2011) – The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) will again be featuring Top Sportsman racing at its next event.
It will run an eight-car Top Sportsman exhibition at the Independence Drags V, which takes place on June 17-18 at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kan.
For those interested in being a part of the eight-car exhibition race, they are encouraged to e-mail ADRL Director of Technical Services Chris Bell at [email protected].
The Top Sportsman class, which is an extremely popular class for full-bodied cars, made its ADRL debut at the Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags at Maple Grove Raceway on May 5-6.
The four-car Top Sportsman exhibition featured Tyler Hard, Marco Abruzzi, Glen Butcher and Ronnie Proctor, and each enjoyed the experience of racing at an ADRL national event.
“There’s a lot of fast cars and it’s high-quality racing,” Hard said. “It was certainly nice to be a part of the event. I think it was good for our class and good for the ADRL, too.”
Hard was one of many who thought adding Top Sportsman racing to the world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing league would be a win-win for all parties.
“There’s a lot of really good Top Sportsman cars around and this would be another place to get Top Sportsman cars out,” Hard said. “To showcase them at ADRL events would make it really great.”
ADRL officials were also excited about the Top Sportsman debut at Maple Grove Raceway.
With another exhibition slated for the Independence Drags – this one being an eight-car field – it marks the next step in possibly adding the class as a permanent fixture to the ADRL series.
“It was great seeing the fans’ reaction to these cars. They really put on an amazing show,” ADRL Director of Competition Tom Grooms said. “You could not ask for a more professional group of racers, and it was exciting to see them racing in the ADRL.
“They are serious, all-out racers, and like our other ADRL teams, they put an amazing amount of time and effort into their program.”
