Tony Pedregon is enthusiastic about lining up his WIX Filters Funny Car against three other cars Friday when the Visitmyrtlebeach.com 4-Wide Nationals begins its three-day run at zMAX Dragway.
This was the most-discussed event on the 2010 schedule because of its unique four-car lineup in each round. A year later, Pedregon is optimistic about the race.
“The facility is one of the best on the tour and we love to race there,” he said. “Last year was something new and I think everyone in their own way had some adjustments to make. I think the second time around is going to be better. I think it is going to be more exciting.
“With all of the challenges we had, there was some close racing. A close race with four cars is better to me than a close race with two cars. We didn’t get the results we would have liked then,” he commented, “so this is an opportunity to redeem ourselves.”
Pedregon’s semifinal finish two weeks ago at Las Vegas lifted him into 10th place in NHRA’s Full Throttle Drag Racing Series standings and he plans to build on that success this weekend.
“I think, competitively, I have more confidence. I think we made some progress in the last couple of races and I am ready to get back on the track and eventually get back to the winner’s circle.”
This is Pedregon’s first race with WIX Filters as the primary sponsor. Nitro Fish is an associate sponsor.
