BAYTOWN, Texas – A rare first round red-light start Sunday put an unexpectedly early ending to LE Tonglet’s chance of winning the Spring Nationals Pro Stock Motorcycle title at Royal Purple Raceway.
The reigning Full Throttle PSM champion’s Nitro Fish Suzuki GSXR left the line 17-thousandths of a second too soon, giving the win to Steve Johnson’s 6.849 at 195.45 mph.
“That happens . . . it’s just part of racing,” said a dejected Tonglet. “This is our hometown race. We didn’t want to go out like that.”
After two races, Tonglet is fifth with 116 points. His next is race is the Southern Nationals, May 13-15, at Commerce, Ga., near Atlanta.
