DENVER, Colo. – Tommy Johnson, Jr., driver of the Monster Energy Dodge Funny Car, has seen performance strides recently and notes that team morale is riding high going into the Mopar Mile-High Nationals July 11-13.

“As a driver we have never won in Denver ,” explained Johnson, “but we have been to the final round three different times in three different categories: Alcohol Funny Car, Super Gas and Top Fuel. So we look forward to going to this event.

“We seem to go rounds at this track and that gives us a positive outlook. We like going

to Denver and would like to add Funny Car to our list of final rounds.

“This track has a different tune-up combination from any of the others because of its altitude and can sometimes be challenging to crew chiefs. Through the years, they have learned how to make the engines adapt to and breathe in the thin air.

“Bandimere is a fan favorite because of its picturesque setting in the side of the mountain and we always have a standing room only crowd at this event. We’re looking forward to going some rounds on Sunday.”

Nitro (Top Fuel and Funny Car) qualifying begins Friday, July 11 at 5:30 p.m. with a second session at 8 p.m. There are two qualifying rounds Saturday, 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., with final eliminations scheduled to begin Sunday at noon.
