Just wanted to pass on some sad news - Tom Baum died today, Oct 27, from congestive heart failure. He ran the Xicutioner blown alcohol dragster out of Des Plaines, IL for many years. Not much success, but known far and wide.
Tommy Johnson Sr. wanted me to post this for him about Tom....
I'm so sorry to read this. The "Baumer" is gone. That ruins my day.
I just saw him at Indy and had a nice visit with him, now I think, our visit wasn't long enough. He will be missed by our WHOLE family and there will never be one like him. He was a "one of a kind" clown of the pits. Everyone loved "the Baumer".
I remember Tom Jr. & I passing him coming home from the SEMA Show one year. We were about 50 miles north of Las Vegas and he had blown a tire on his dragster trailer with no spare, so he just left it off and went on down the road on three wheels! Yep, he made it all the way back to Chicago on just three wheels.
For those of you who knew the Baumer, a wake will be held from 3:00 to 9:00PM on Friday 10-30-09 at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. (Dempster and Rand), Des Plaines, Il.
