ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 20, 2008) – Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car driver Jerry Toliver qualified No. 12 today at the 23rd annual NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex. He made the field by recording an elapsed time of 4.126 seconds at 300.13 mph during the Friday evening session.
Toliver's other qualifying runs included a 5.356/132.32 (No. 17) earlier on Friday, and a 7.776/168.94 (No. 12) and 4.195/294.31 (No. 12) today. His solid 4.12-second pass on Friday evening boded well for the Rockstar Energy Drink team to assume a spot in Sunday's field, which took some pressure off of Toliver, who has missed the last three races.
"When you come to the track on Saturday morning not qualified and you don't get down the track on that third lap it really puts the pressure on you, because you have to get down there on that last lap," said Toliver, who came into the race No. 15 in points. "But that last pass was a nice run for the Rockstar Energy Drink car. To run a 4.19 in the heat of the day, I'm really proud of the boys. Will see what we can do with this Rockstar Energy Drink car tomorrow."
Toliver will go up against Don Schumacher Racing teammate and No. 5 qualifier Jack Beckman in round one of Sunday's eliminations.
