Las Vegas, NV. – The Ahten Racing Team is back this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after last week’s Regional event. The Stump Puller, commanded by driver Johnny Ahten, is refreshed and ready for action. Some lessons were learned, and the desire to succeed continues.
“Getting bumped out of the show while sitting in the water box is not fun,” said Ahten. “We were sitting in the number seven slot with our 5.52@253. Then I had to sit and watch the pair front of me bump us out. I was confident going into that final session. We had the car set on mean and during staging it sounded angry. At the hit the car lifted the front end and was on its way. The tires started to square a bit and it went into shake. The hit of the wheelie bar then unloaded the tires and she went up in smoke. Our chance of racing the Regionals was over. We serviced the car and started planning for the National event.”
The Saturday return ride home to California was long enough without the DNQ. To make matters worse the team could watch the action on LVMS’s UStream webcam feed. Racers don’t make good fans because they would rather be racing than watching. What is does do is raise the blood pressure and get the mind to thinking. Shoulda, coulda, woulda comes up most often, but this is only the third race after a long winters layoff. Johnny Ahten and his crew chief Dad Al Ahten have just about had it with thinking about what to do next. Jumping up and down and stamping your feet while screaming is one considered option, the other is to dive back into the run data and keep going. Continuing on the battle against track conditions, the weather, the car, and the many variables will lead to success.
“I’ll be on the lookout out for Lady Luck this weekend, but no one is going to hand us anything,” added Johnny Ahten. “The Island Renovations, 801 Racing, Fireman’s Brew Dragster will get down the track and go some rounds. If it doesn’t, then it’s back to work. My Dad Al Ahten, along with Howard Katano, Bob Ahten, Kevin “Shark” Colvell, Chuck Costabile, and Todd “Rocky” Rockwell are not the kind of guys that give up easily.”
That’s the way it’s supposed to be. Lady Luck has a small role in there, and Johnny Ahten has a stack of messages on her desk. The Lady has conveyed one short message back, it read: “To Be Continued…”

We believe true happiness comes from blazing down the blacktop with the pedal to the metal and our hair on fire. The whiter our knuckles get, the better. If it were up to us, cars wouldn't even have brakes, just two gas pedals. It's this never-ending need for speed that drives everything we do. We spend countless hours in the lab and lying awake at night plotting and planning how to get more speed by any means possible. After decades of research and innovation, we've developed a complete line of performance and car care products designed to ensure that your ride lives up to its potential on the street and on the track. We know what you want. We got what you need. We are 801 Racing. For more information on 801 racing, please visit: 801 Racing -
