TORONTO, ONTARIO (October 17, 2011) – For his first year in organized drag racing, John Orfanidis had a solid season, placing fifth in points in the Pro Bike & Sled Series Championship Point Award Series Standings presented by Wiseco Performance Products.
And, just as important, he said he enjoyed himself for the first season of PBSS racing.
“We had lots of fun,” said the Toronto-based Pro Bike rider. “I really enjoyed it. The people are great, and everyone helped each other out when needed.”
Orfanidis qualified number one in five out of the six PBSS events, making some impressive times during the season, running his Pro Bike at 175 mph in under eight seconds.
“We had some minor mechanical issues,” he mentioned, “but we’re going to have to work on our racing. It’s been a big learning curve for our first year of racing.
“And it can only get better.”
The motorcycle of the Quality Automotive Team is a 2001 Suzuki GSXR, with a Vance and Hines-tweaked 1500-cc engine producing about 340 horsepower. The bike runs on carburetors and the power is transmitted through a six-speed gearbox.
Crew chief on the team is Mike Henriques, and Sam Reale, Peter Cifuentes, Alex Saragosa, and Fedon Orfanidis make up the rest of the crew. The team is sponsored by Quality Automotive, Converter Man Ltd. and Diamond Trans.
“I have to thank the team for their work this season,” Orfanidis said. “They were also on a learning curve, and we learned together as the season went on. I also have to thank my sponsors for helping to make this all possible.”
The Annual "Night of Champions" Championship Point Award Series Banquet for the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS) will be held at the Burlington Hotel & Conference Centre in Burlington, Ontario on Saturday, November 19, 2011.

The Pro Bike & Sled Series, PBSS ~ Pro Bike & Sled Series | Pro Bike & Sled Series, presented by Wiseco Performance Products was organized early in 2011, was established for Motorcycle and Snowmobile teams to compete on a regular basis in an organized and professional racing environment. After a successful six-race initial season, the PBSS will return to a full schedule for 2012.
The Series is comprised of a qualified field of Motorcycles and Snowmobiles, and presents the best in ET-style, dial-in drag racing, competing on a Sportsman ladder.
Competitors in this exciting Series adhere to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA). The maximum dial-in will be 9.50-seconds for the quarter-mile and competitors will race in the eight-second range at speeds of 150 mph and above. In its first season, the 150-mph mark was obtained many times, and speeds approaching 175 mph were recorded on several occasions.
The Series provides $1000 to win for each event and $2500 for the annual Championship Point Award Series Champion, payouts very popular with competitors and will provide large fields of race vehicles.
The Pro Bike & Sled Series is committed in providing a professional atmosphere of competition for its teams.
