The Outlaw’s head to Firebird Raceway Boise for the historical 40th anniversary “Nightfire Nationals” event
Boise, ID – The 2011 West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association has reached the half way point in their 2011 season as they head to their fourth event this year in Boise, Idaho at Firebird Raceway for the track’s 40th anniversary of their prestigious “Nightfire Nationals” event on August 12-14.
This will mark the second trip to Boise for the WCOPMA this year as they kicked off their season at Firebird Raceway in late June. The “Nightfire Nationals” event is the signature event for Firebird Raceway every year as they bring in the NHRA Heritage series Nostalgia Fuel Funny Cars and Dragsters for 16-car fields, Outlaw Pro Mods for an 8-car show, jet cars and wheel standers to top off each night and the largest 4-day bracket race on the west coast.
The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association first ran in Boise last year at the “Nightfire Nationals” event and put on one of the best shows in the associations history and undoubtedly the best pro mod show ever put on for the fans at Firebird Raceway with every pro mod track record being broken that could possibly be broke. In 2011 we’re looking to step it up again with a huge list of heavy hitters pre entered for this year’s “Nightfire Nationals” event just a week away.
This year has been the tightest, closest and quickest racing for the WCOPMA than any prior year and the point’s standings reflect that. With three events completed so far in 2011 there have been three different number one qualifiers, six different finalist and three different event winners and most are coming to the Nightfire along with a few surprises.
At the season opening event in Boise Lee Smith took the win over Marc Meadors and they will both be back for more. At the second event this season in Medford Rod Burbage beat the 2010 WCOPMA champ Bret Williamson in the final and they will both be on hand at the Nightfire. Then at our most recently completed event in Sonoma Mike Maggio took the win over Dan Nickelson in just his first event with the WCOPMA and he liked it so much that the Magco Drilling 70.5 Camaro will make the tow to Boise.
The rest of the pre-entered racers are no slouches either and it just goes to show that the “Nightfire Nationals” could be anyone’s race to win. Along with Lee Smith, Marc Meadors, Rod Burbage, Bret Williamson and Mike Maggio listed above will be the nitrous assisted duo that never misses the Nightfire Nationals event; NHRA pro mod hitter Dennis Radford and his teammate Billy Harper. Rod Pearce is in the books for getting a pro mod win at the Nightfire Nationals back in 2008 and he will try for his second in 2011. Jay Diedrich will also be on hand with his new 70.5 Camaro, Randy Walker will be there with his new Charles Carpenter tuned 1974 El Camino and Rob Cacioppo will be there in Steve Gomez’ 1963 Vette fresh off a career best performance at their last outing.
This event will not be one to miss with great racing happening all weekend. For more information please visit West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association or Firebird Raceway. During the event follow along with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s results on our website or Facebook page!
