The Only Thing is Winning Says Anderson

BRAINERD, Minn. -- When Greg Anderson, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pro Stock Pontiac GTO, takes to the quarter-mile track he has but one thought - to win.

"I'm only out here because I want to win," says Anderson, as he prepares for this weekend's 25th annual NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR). "I want to win every round, every race and every POWERade championship.

"Is it that easy? The answer is no, but don't count me out of this year's championship. After all, I'm only 64 points out of the lead and that's only a little more than three rounds of racing and we have eight races left. There is still plenty of time left and neither me or my Summit Racing Pontiac GTO are about to give up. I'm not racing for second."

Anderson, who led the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standings for the first 12 races of 2006, is locked in a tenacious battle with his teammate Jason Line. Line leads second place Anderson by 64 points and third place Dave Connolly by 122 points. Jim Yates is fourth, 188 points back and KJ - Kurt Johnson - rounds out the top five in fifth, 252 points behind.

"As I said earlier, we're not out of this thing by any means," recounted Anderson, who is seeking his fourth consecutive point title. "Jason and I have had the two best performing cars out there the last two or three races and if we can continue our performance we may have to wait until the last race to see who wins.

"I don't mean to sound overly optimistic because there are a whole bunch of cars out there that have a shot at winning it all. I just like our chances. That's all I'm saying."

Both Anderson and Line were born in Minnesota - Duluth for Greg and Wright for Line. They both have spent plenty of time at BIR and Anderson has one Pro Stock win in three final rounds at the Brainerd track. His win came in 2003 at the expense of Kurt Johnson, another driver from "The Land of 10,000 Lakes." He was also runner-up to Jeg Coughlin in 2002 and Dave Connolly in 2004.

Qualifying for Anderson and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two Pro Stock sessions on Friday, Aug. 11, scheduled for 2:45 and 5:30 p.m. and concludes with two additional Pro Stock sessions on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Anderson begins his quest for the Lucas Oil Nationals Pro Stock title on Sunday, Aug. 13 with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. All times are local Brainerd time (CT) and subject to change at anytime.

Qualifying highlights for the silver anniversary NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals can be seen on ESPN2 on Saturday (August 12) from 6 to 8 p.m. ESPN2 will also air same-day television coverage of eliminations from 7 until 10 p.m. (Sunday, August 13). KB Racing LLC is owned by Las Vegas businessmen Ken Black and his son Kenny Black. KB Racing LLC fields two Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTOs, one driven by Greg Anderson and the other by Jason Line in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. Anderson has won three consecutive POWERade Pro Stock Championships (2003-2005). Line finished third in the 2005 POWERade point standings and was honored with the 2004 Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future award, presented to the most outstanding rookie in a professional category. This year KB Racing LLC also began fielding a Top Fuel Dragster, managed by Kalitta Motorsports, with rookie Top Fuel driver Hillary Will handling the driving duties.
