“My outlook on Phoenix is very optimistic. From the showing that we had in Pomona , I have tremendous confidence in the ability of our team to go out there and have another good showing. We want to do well because we have the Matco Tools Expo in Orlando right after the race and we want to take them a nice gift, like a “Wally” trophy. We tested well at Phoenix last month, so we’re excited.”

“I think we have a tremendous amount of potential. The car ran good enough to qualify on the pole. We know we have the performance. We’re looking for some more consistency and certainly Antron (Brown) is getting better with each run he makes in the car.”

Brown has never competed at the CSK Nationals. The Pro Stock Motorcycle category, which does not compete at each NHRA POWERade Series event, begins its schedule at Gainesville ( Fla. ) Raceway in March.
Brown earned his 12th career No. 1 qualifying award by pacing the field at the season-opening Winternationals two weeks ago in Pomona, Calif. Brown clocked a run of 4.495 seconds at 330.07 mph to pace the Top Fuelers. He advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to 29-time Top Fuel winner Cory McClenathan.
Brown became the eighth different driver that veteran crew chief Lee Beard has tuned to the pole award. It was Beard’s 56th No. 1 qualifier.
Last season, Brown raced his U.S. Army Suzuki to a 10th place finish in the PSM standings. It was his 10th consecutive finish in the top 10. He had two semifinals appearances, including Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in November.
Brown was named driver of the Matco Tools dragster during the Auto Club Finals last November.
Brown made the necessary runs required to earn his crossover Top Fuel license on Jan. 26 at Firebird International Raceway near Phoenix . He made his first 300-mph lap on Jan. 29 (327.66 mph) and his first 4.4-second pass on Jan. 30 (4.486 seconds) at F.I.R.
Brown has qualified for 146 consecutive NHRA events. He hasn’t missed the cut since the Gainesville race in 1998 after being disqualified for bad fuel at his first career event. It is the second longest qualifying streak in the professional ranks (Angelle Sampey—166).
