Team Mopar Pro Stock Qualifying Report - Seattle

RICHIE STEVENS JR., DON SCHUMACHER RACING'S TEAM MOPAR/VALSPAR DODGE STRATUS R/T:

STEVENS WILL START NO. 10 IN SEATTLE
Richie Stevens Jr. drove the Team Mopar/Valspar Dodge Stratus R/T into the No. 10 spot in qualifying for the Schuck's Auto Supply NHRA Nationals, in only one round run because of rain.

Stevens posted a 6.694-second elapsed time at 206.01 mph to earn that spot and will face Warren Johnson in the opening round of eliminations on race day.

"We did good," said Stevens. "We made a decent run out there and got in the show. We're 10th, we don't have lane choice for tomorrow, but at least we got in. There's a couple of guys who did not make good runs who are not in the field, so they kind of lost out because of the rain.

"We made a pretty good run, I'm pretty happy with it. And we'll be able to tune from it tomorrow. There's plenty left in it. We should be able to tune her up a little bit tomorrow and have a better car. We're confident, we'll be the second pair out, and we have W.J. first round. We'll see if we can't put him out and go some rounds."

ALLEN JOHNSON, MOPAR/J&J RACING DODGE STRATUS R/T:

JOHNSON CLAIMS NO. 2 IN SEATTLE QUALIFYING
Allen Johnson benefited from his teammate Richie Stevens' earlier pass in the single qualifying round held at the Schuck's Auto Supply NHRA Nationals to collect the No. 2 spot. Johnson posted a 6.671-second pass at 206.95 mph.

"We were behind Richie in that session, so Mark (Ingersoll, crew chief) was able to adjust my car a little bit after Richie's run and was able to step it up just a little.

"We'll take it. We have lane choice tomorrow and we're on our plan: lane choice, win first round, go to second round, and everything's gravy from there.

"I think the experience we have in our camp probably played in our hands a little bit," he said of having only one qualifying session. "We're usually really good right out of the box, so I think that will pay dividends for us."

Johnson faces Justin Humphreys in the opening round of eliminations.
