Center Line, Mich. — Mopar®/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson has already put his first-round exit at last weekend’s NHRA Carolinas Nationals in his rear view mirror. The Team Mopar driver is focused on getting back on track this weekend at the second event in the six-race NHRA Countdown to 1 playoffs – O’Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals. The race is scheduled for Sept. 18 – 21 at Texas Motorplex in Ennis , Texas .

The Greeneville, Tenn. native believes he and his J&J Racing team may have been too cautious in their approach at the previous event.

“We have to be more aggressive, instead of passive,” remarked Johnson. “We’ve put ourselves in the position now where we’ve got to be aggressive and go for it. I probably like that better than anything, because that forces me to focus on beating everybody instead of a single driver. I think that’s what got us first round at Charlotte . We got a little passive and it cost us.”

The early exit hasn’t darkened Johnson’s outlook on the Countdown playoffs. The veteran Team Mopar driver has a history of finishing well in the stretch run of the NHRA POWERade season. He currently sits sixth in the Countdown standings, well within striking distance of the points leader.

“I feel probably more confident right now than I have in the last two years,” said Johnson, who has made four semifinals appearances since July, including two runner-up finishes. “I did at Indy [where he claimed the No. 1 qualifier award] and I did at Charlotte . This Mopar Dodge Stratus R/T is running great and we’re making awesome power from our Mopar HEMI® engine. We’ve just got to make the right decision on Sunday. We’ll get this turned around.”

Johnson will post blog regarding Inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals on Moparspeed.com

70 Years of Mopar

When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Originally used in the 1920s, Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It was also widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s – the muscle car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of “Special Parts” for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

Today, Chrysler LLC’s Global Service & Parts division is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of nearly 250,000 authentic Mopar replacement parts, components and accessories for Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles sold around the world. To assure quality, reliability and durability, all Mopar parts and accessories are designed in strict adherence to Chrysler Engineering standards.
