Team Mopar®’s Allen Johnson is Eager to Repeat Past Englishtown Success at Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals

Center Line, Mich. — Team Mopar® Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson earned his second career No. 1 qualifier award and accumulated recent semifinals and quarterfinals appearances at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. Johnson will take encouragement from his strong track record at the facility as he continues his quest for his sixth career NHRA POWERade Pro Stock win in the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals on June 20–22 at the venerable New Jersey quarter-mile.

Johnson, who powered to his fourth No. 1 qualifier spot at the NHRA Phoenix event earlier this year, is also hunting for his first 2008 win. He and his Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T team, led by his father and engine builder, Roy Johnson, and crew chief Mark Ingersoll, have fielded one of the most dominant cars during qualifying thus far in the 2008 Pro Stock season. The challenge for the Greeneville, Tenn. native and his J&J crew is translating their qualifying talents into race day wins.

“We’re experimenting, trying to get the car set up right for Sunday, and I think we are on the right track,” said Johnson, the longest serving driver in Team Mopar’s stable. “We had one of our best runs on race day against Greg [Anderson] at the last event in Joliet, so we have been improving.”

Johnson is sixth in the point standings, well within the top-ten cutoff for the six-race NHRA POWERADE Countdown to the Championship, which will begin following the 18-race regular season.

“We haven’t performed how we would have liked so far, but we’re looking good for the Countdown, and that’s really all that matters,” said Johnson, one of only four Pro Stock drivers to qualify for the 2007 NHRA Countdown to 1 title playoff. “If we can put this thing together in the second half of the season, this Mopar Dodge Stratus R/T is going to make some noise.”

Johnson added, “Dad and Mark have been making great horsepower with our Mopar HEMI® engine. Even though we went out first round, I definitely feel encouraged by our Joliet outing and by the way we have run in the past at Englishtown. It’s just a matter of time before we raise a winner’s trophy.”
