I was able to plan a last minute trip - I'll arrive Saturday evening and leave Monday morning, so I am only there for Sunday and Sunday evening. Any "eat here" or "don't stay here under any circumstances" advice? Even tho its a quick trip, looking forward to getting to my 7th national event facility (8th if you count NE Dragway, but I have never been there for a national event.) Thanks!!

Depends on where you’re staying, but the only place I’d drive out of the way to eat at is Joe T Garcias in the Ft. Worth stockyards.

Waxahachie, twice the size of Ennis and just 10 minutes to the west of the Motorplex, also has good places to stay and eat. Might be smart to reserve a room in one of those two places soon; lots of racers and fans come into the area for that race. 10 best eateries in Waxahachie:

I always preferred staying in Waxahachie vs Ennis. More options for everything and easier getting to and from the track.

Waxahachie is bigger and has more available amenities, however, Ennis has a Bucc-ee's! I recommend the brisket breakfast burrito. I also recommend avoiding the Ennis Motel 6. Its a dump.
Never been to one but some friends have and they said the Brisket is totally amazing.

LOL
I'd recommend avoiding ANY Motel 6 unless you're into prostitutes, meth and the resident cockroaches. The police spend more time at our local Motel 6 than they do writing speeding tickets.

The last time I was in a Motel 6 there was a drug dealer operating in the next room and there was continuous traffic in an out all night long. Terrible!

I enjoy spending all day Friday at the 'Plex and of course the visual effects (and strong performances) that come from evening qualifying is the highlight of the day. But not this time.

North Central Texas has been blessed with the hottest summer on record, almost no rain, and mid 90s is forecast for Ennis the entire weekend. Trackside temps will be a lot higher than that and the track 130+ during the heat of the day. The last time it happened (104 ambient that day) the smokefests were so bad half the Pro Stocks qualified for Funny Car. I was there that day and I'm not interested in doing it again. I've been to that race 36 out of 38 times so it's not like I'm going to miss much.

I looked at the forecast and said no way for me

Phoenix is THTL - Too Hot To Live. 106 was forecast for today and it's 132.... no, wait, 105 now. Feels hotter. We had 113 last week. Norm for Phx is 95 this time of the year. The news stations are calling it Hot-tober. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I feel for ya. One reason Phoenix's event isn't held in the summer. Normally, Ennis has begun to cool by this time of year but there's been a relentless heat wave here that's been going on for months. 100 yesterday here; I'm about 175 miles NW of the track. Average temps for mid-October are in the low 80s.

Those that remember the days know that the Ennis race used to be held a month earlier. Meyer got it changed on account of all the back-to-school and Friday night HS football games that were competing with the event, and the everpresent heat. Oh well, no one's fault, it just is what it is and they'll just have to deal with it.
