Strong Qualifying Effort for Samsel in Gainesville
Robin Samsel was in Gainesville last weekend for the second race of the Division 2 Lucas Oil Sportsman Series. After qualifying for the Bradenton race and losing to the eventual race winner the week before, the Team went out and did some extensive testing to try and figure out how to pick up their performance. All that hard work paid off when the Team unloaded the car on Saturday and went straight down the groove with a 5.46, the quickest pass of the session.
“After Bradenton , we really felt like we needed to do some testing before we headed to our next race. This class gets tougher and tougher every year and we know that in order to do well we have to be at the top of our game each week. The car ran well in qualifying, we got in the top half of the field and we felt good about our combination going into eliminations on Sunday,” remarked Samsel.
In their second time run, the Marion , Indiana based Team showed their consistency running a 5.42 earning them the #3 qualifying spot in the field. Unfortunately, for the perennial top 10 divisional finisher, he smoked the tires in the first round and was unable to get the win light.
“Unfortunately, we just didn’t quite get the combination right on Sunday, but that is the way it goes. We learned a lot in the past week or so and I think that we’ll pick up right where we left off when we come back for the Gatornationals in a couple weeks. The car is starting to respond to the changes we make and I am excited to get back out there again and see how we can do on a National event prepped track,” said Tony Samsel, crew chief on the car.
The next event for the Team will be in Gainesville , Florida for the Gatornationals, March 13th thru the 16th.
