Phoenix, AZ – A race within a race, qualifying is all about how quick you can get to the finish link. On Saturday, Cody Perkins and the 801 Racing Team ran a 5.378 elapsed time at 263.87 miles per hour. That was quick enough to launch them into the number two position. It was here where the Inesco/Steamco Dragster would stay for Sunday’s eliminations.

Carrying that number two qualifying spot into race day, Perkins was up against number seven qualifier Don St. Arnaud. Perkins and the team had lane choice and they believed the upper hand. Off the line, St. Arnaud got a small head start, but Perkins reeled him in after a few feet. Things were looking up, but they were not going to stay that way. Even though St. Arnaud was showing signs of trouble, Perkins was losing power. By the one-thousand-foot mark, Perkins’ lead was no more. Along with it was the glory of the number two qualifier, and ultimately, the race.

When asked about the race, Perkins was understandably short. “I really have nothing good to say,” said Perkins.

In Drag Racing, no one likes to lose, and talking about it after the fact is not easy or fun. One person who had plenty to say is 801 Racing’s John Hill. When contacted about the race, Hill said, “We see a ton of potential in Cody and I’m sure he'll get it figured out and be ready to rock in Vegas! We don't just sponsor Cody because he's another guy that can make it down the track. We sponsor him because he's smart and talented and we know that with a combination like that, he's bound to turn some heads.”

With the support of his family, the 801 Team, and 801 Racing’s performance products, Cody Perkins will continue to get stronger. He will feed off of that number two qualifying number. The sting of the first round loss may linger, but it will not last. The team, the car, and Cody Perkins the man will get stronger because of this race. That is real strength that will be brought to the next race, the rest of the season, and a lifetime of Drag Racing.

We believe true happiness comes from blazing down the blacktop with the pedal to the metal and our hair on fire. The whiter our knuckles get- the better. If it were up to us, cars wouldn't even have brakes, just two gas pedals. It's this never-ending need for speed that drives everything we do. We spend countless hours in the lab and lying awake at night plotting and planning how to get more speed by any means possible. After decades of research and innovation, we've developed a complete line of performance and car care products designed to ensure that your ride lives up to its potential on the street and on the track. We know what you want. We got what you need. We are 801 Racing. For more information on 801 racing, please visit: 801 RACING
