<P> CLEREMONT, Ind. (Friday, August 29, 2008) – Pro Mod driver Rick Stivers jumped to the No. 11 spot in qualifying for the JEGS ProMod Challenge at the MAC Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals by running a 6.118/233.24.
“That felt good,” Stivers said. “It’s my first race with Quain Stott tuning for me, and we got a really good baseline for the rest of the weekend with that pass.
“Racing at Indy is always amazing because it’s such a historic race. There’s an energy in the air that’s hard to describe, but I love it. It’s obvious that everyone brought their best game, because there were a lot of great numbers, and I’m sure we’ll be right up at the top of the pack after tomorrow, but for now, it feels really good being in the mix,” he said.
Behind the wheel of the Support Our Troops ’63 Split Window Corvette, Stivers said he has gotten a great response from fans about his theme car. “It’s so important for our troops to know how much their sacrifice means, and I’ve had so many people come up and tell me how much they appreciate what we’re doing. It’s funny, really – we’re saying “thank you” to the troops, and they are bouncing it right back to us. Pretty cool,” he said.
Qualifying continues Saturday with sessions at 3 and 8 p.m., and one final qualifier at 2 p.m. Sunday before the first round of eliminations Sunday evening at 5:10 p.m. The balance of eliminations will be run on Labor Day beginning at 11 a.m.
