[coverattach=1]Pomona, Saturday: Richie Stevens moved from outside the top 16 into the field on his first of two runs Saturday with a 6.692-second time in the Nitro Fish/Indicom Electric Dodge, drawing a sigh of relief not only from himself, but team owner Kenny Koretsky and crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia.
It put him in the starting line-up in the 16th position for Sunday's Auto Club Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
"We hung in there . . . thank goodness," said Stevens. "It was a nail-biter. Because this is the last race of the year it is a good way to finish it. Maybe we can start eliminations with a surprise win."
Guarnaccia, meanwhile, said he did some experimenting on the car's last run "and the car didn't like it. Like any other race, we are happy to be racing on Sunday. I hope we can give Richie a decent car to race and he can get some round wins."
Stevens meets low qualifier Greg Anderson (6.634 at 208.20) in the first round.
