NORWALK, Ohio – Greg Stanfield and the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks Pro Stock GP team put together its quickest run of the weekend Sunday as he upset No. 1 qualifier Erica Enders in the first round of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals on the way to a satisfying semifinal finish.

He qualified 16th with a 6.622-second run, and when he hammered the throttle against Enders, the car responded with a strong quarter-mile lap of 6.603 seconds at 208.59 mph. Enders’ time was 6.779 at 208.33.

“We were happy to go a couple of rounds,” said crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia. “We continue to learn more. The sun was on the track (Sunday) for the first time this weekend and conditions changed. We know we have a good combination.”

It’s uncommon for the No.16 Pro Stock qualifier get past the opening round, but Stanfield added another win – by an estimated seven feet – when he beat Allen Johnson to the win light, 6.622 at 208.42 to 6.635 at 208.88, in the quarterfinals.

Stanfield then encountered a drag racer’s occupational hazard – a foul start – against Vincent Nobile in the semifinals. He missed a perfect light by one-hundredth of a second.

Stanfield is fourth in Full Throttle Drag Racing Series points with 688. The team returns to competition at Joliet, Ill., July 8-10.
