COMMERCE, Ga. – It wasn’t the kind of weekend Greg Stanfield expected to spend in the Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. Sunday’s eliminations were way too short.
Stanfield and the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP Pro Stock team struggled during qualifying, starting a season-low 14th. And he didn’t have lane of choice in his first-round match against Allen Johnson.
Both cars left together but Johnson pulled away to the win, 6.605 seconds at 209.43 mph to a 6.626 at 208.46.
“That was a good run in that lane,” said Nitro Fish owner Kenny Koretsky. “That wasn’t the preferred lane.”
Stanfield, who was second in Full Throttle Series points coming into Atlanta, left tied for fourth with 420.
Stanfield will be back in action Friday in Topeka, Kan. when qualifying begins for the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals, May 20-22.
