JOLIET, Ill. – Greg Stanfield takes on a familiar Pro Stock competitor Sunday when the O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals gets underway at Route 66 Raceway – rookie of the year favorite Vince Nobile.
The two clashed last Sunday in Norwalk, Ohio, when Nobile got the win light in the semifinals. This time around, however, Stanfield hopes to prevail. He qualified the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP seventh overall with a qualifying best of 6.616 seconds at 208.04 mph. Nobile was 10th, 6.626 at 208.30.
This will be the sixth time in the first 11 races the veteran Stanfield has raced the 19-year-old newcomer. Stanfield holds a 3-2 edge. Nobile, however, is third in Full Throttle Series points with 713 while Stanfield is fourth at 688.
