Clay Millican had a lot to smile about early Friday evening after qualifying his new Parts Plus Top Fuel dragster ninth as the NHRA Gatornationals began at Gainesville Raceway.
On just his second run of the season, he uncorked an elapsed time of 3.877 seconds at a fast 316.15 mph that elicited the broad smile. Millican’s first run of the season was a tire-smoking 1,000-foot time of 6.784 at 86.94 mph.
“That second run was great,” he said. “We are excited to welcome Parts Plus to 300 miles per hour drag racing,” Millican said. “It was a good run. Justin Crosslin and Mike Domalaga, our co-crew chiefs, did an excellent job under pressure. That’s why we are here. They can do the job.”
The team has two more runs on tap Saturday that will set the 16-car lineup for Sunday’s eliminations.
