Watch the whole TV show and unless I missed it they never actually mentioned why this was the last national event. I had a friend text me, he’s just a casual fan and was curious. I told him money talks and the NHRA was pulling out of Georgia. Urban sprawl yup, but instead of finding another location they’re outta here. I’m new to the Atlanta area, are there any other decent 1/4 mile tracks without driving hours 😞or are 1/4 mile drags dead here?

They sold the track because they got good offer and it made business sense. Bruton is rumored to be remodeling Atlanta Motor Speedway, maybe he will add a drag strip next to the casino.

I noticed that as well. Paul is right. It was probably an offer they couldn't refuse. Plus with the loss of revenue due to the pandemic NHRA probably needs the money!
But Craig, if you are in the Atlanta area, you are very lucky. Several national event sites in only a short drive away. Coming from myself that has to drive 12 hours to the only close event (Seattle) I am jealous. For example, in just two weeks you can drive to Charlotte for the 4 Wides in just under 4 hours!

Really, a casino at the race track ? Now that's a way to make a race track profitable ! Kudos to Bruton for thinking outside of the box .

Wild Horse has a casino literally across the street from the track. You can sit in the spectator side and watch cars going to the casino - it never stops. Thought long ago how long will the track last, cuz doesn't make anything near what the casinos (plural) make.

There is also a casino right across the street from the Phoenix track.

Capitol City Motorsports Park in Montgomery, AL. Good old school 1/4 mile drag strip. The last time I drove to it from Atlanta it was only a couple of hours.

They have a Casino next to Kansas Speedway and they sponsor the 2nd race in late September .

I'll tell ya', I like the 30 minute ride from Hartsfield to Atlanta Motor Speedway better than the 1.5 - 2 hour ride to Atlanta Dragway.

I don’t mind driving a couple of hours for a national event, it’s the several hour drive if I actually want to race at a 1/4 mile track a few times a month 😩 now that the NHRA has bailed on Georgia there’s no alternative if we want to run the 1320.

A lot of folks fly into Greenville/Spartenburg airport which is about an hour north of Commerce with no traffic, a straight shot down 85.

If I remember correctly, the options on getting back to Chicago on Sunday night weren't great. We all have to punch a clock on Monday at 6-7am.

Well you don't have to worry about that anymore.

I really like the idea he may add a drag strip, theres a big hole from zMAX Dragway to Gainesville for a CAMPING WORLD/NHRA National event.
