Matt Smith will do something this weekend that he has never done before in his career. He will head into a race as the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle points leader for his first time ever.
Last time out in St. Louis, Smith was not only the No. 1 qualifier, but won the race and set the new national record at 6.901et. He captured 138 points, the most points you can earn at a race.
“We ran pretty awesome a few weeks ago in St. Louis,” said Smith. “Winning the race and setting the record definitely had to be one of the best moments of my life. We have been working real hard to get this bike where it needs to be and I am not backing down any time soon.”
“I am excited about having a teammate again,” said Smith. “Especially the way we have this program running. We want to win races and eventually win championships, and Evan Knoll has giving us that opportunity.”
Joining Smith in Chicago will be new teammate Chris Rivas, who sits sixth in points. Rivas will be riding the second bike for Evan Knoll and Torco Race Fuels starting this weekend.
“I am very excited about racing with Evan and Matt,” said Rivas. “They have proven that they have what it takes to be a championship caliber team and I am very blessed to be apart of it. I am ready to ride to the top for them both.”
Watch out for Smith and Rivas this weekend at their sponsor’s race, the Torco Race Fuels Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, IL.
