Seventh No. 1 of year for Anderson

SOMONA, Calif.(July 29) -- Greg Anderson, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pro Stock Pontiac GTO, lowered his own national elapsed time record when he ran a pass of 6.631 seconds at 207.82 mph en route to the No. 1 position at this weekend's NHRA FRAM Autolite Nationals.
If the elapsed time mark holds up through tomorrow's eliminations, it would become the national elapsed time record and add an additional 20 points to Anderson's point total in the chase for his fourth consecutive NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championship. Also, both the E.T. (6.631 seconds) and speed (207.82 mph) are Infineon Raceway track records

"We are trying to find every point we can right now," said Anderson following qualifying. "This is huge. At least we got the record right now but I'm not going to stand here and say that somebody else can't outrun that. The bottom line is that we've got it right now, and they have to take it away from us. I'd rather be in my position. This is the shot in the arm that this team needs. We're very, very close to turning the corner with both of these KB Racing Summit Racing Pontiac GTOs and going on a win streak. Our goal is the championship."

This is Anderson's seventh No. 1 this season and the 47th of his career. He now has four top qualifying spots at Infineon Raceway. Since 2002, Anderson has been in four final rounds at the Sonoma track. Last year he defeated Kurt Johnson and in 2004 was victorious over Dave Connolly. He was runner- up to Larry Morgan (2002) and Jeg Coughlin (2003).

Entering tomorrow's eliminations, Anderson trails his teammate Jason Line by 24 points. The three-time and defending champion, will square off against Mike Thomas in the opening rounds. Thomas qualified No. 16 with an E.T. of 4.693 seconds at 205.51 mph.

Qualifying for Anderson and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two Pro Stock sessions on Friday, July 28, scheduled for 3:15 and 6:45 p.m. and concludes with two additional Pro Stock sessions on Saturday, July 29, at 10 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Anderson begins his quest for the FRAM Autolite Nationals Pro Stock title on Sunday, July 30, with eliminations for all classes beginning at 12 noon. Prior to the start of Sunday's event, Anderson joins other NHRA/POWERade Drag Racing Series drivers for a fan appreciation autograph session that will take place from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on the Infineon Raceway road course, next to the drag strip, in front of the start/finish grandstand. All times are local Sonoma time (PT) and subject to change at anytime.

Qualifying highlights for the 19th annual NHRA FRAM Autolite Nationals can be seen on ESPN2 on Saturday (July 29) from 8 to 10 p.m. ESPN2 will also air same-day television coverage of eliminations from 8 until 11 p.m. (Sunday, July 30). The elimination show repeats early Monday morning (July 31) from 3-4:30 a.m. Also, tune in to NHRA2Day on ESPN2, the weekly show that gives you the latest information about the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. NHRA2Day can be seen on Sunday morning, July 30, from 11:30 a.m. - 12 noon. Television times are Eastern Time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. Check local listings.

KB Racing LLC is owned by Las Vegas businessmen Ken Black and his son Kenny Black. KB Racing LLC fields two Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTOs, one driven by Greg Anderson and the other by Jason Line in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. Anderson has won three consecutive POWERade Pro Stock Championships (2003-2005). Line finished third in the 2005 POWERade point standings and was honored with the 2004 Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future award, presented to the most outstanding rookie in a professional category. This year KB Racing LLC also began fielding a Top Fuel Dragster, managed by Kalitta Motorsports, with rookie Top Fuel driver Hillary Will handling the driving duties.
