KENT, Wash. – Most professional athletes remember their first victory, and for Tommy Johnson, Jr., that first professional win came in 1993 in Seattle while he was driving a Top Fuel dragster.

“I will always remember Seattle as a special place,” reminisced Johnson as he heads into the Schuck’s Auto Supply Nationals July 18-20.

Johnson is driving this season for six-time NHRA champion Kenny Bernstein, who stepped out of the cockpit of the Monster Energy Funny Car at the end of the 2007 season. Johnson is the first full-time non -family member to campaign on the NHRA circuit for the Hall of Famer.

“The West Coast Swing kicks off the second half of the season,” said Johnson, “and it is a difficult three-in-a-row series. Seattle is the turning point of the ‘Swing’ and your performance at that point can make or break the July series.

“I would love to add a Funny Car trophy to our Top Fuel trophy at Pacific Raceways.

“Our team is making performance strides and I can see improvement at each event. Our team’s morale is high right now and I think we’re on the verge of getting over the hump with some gremlins that have plagued us.

“I am hopeful that we will have a strong performance in Seattle .”

Nitro (Top Fuel and Funny Car) qualifying begins Friday, July 18 at 3:30 p. m. with a second qualifying session at 6 p. m. There are two qualifying rounds Saturday, 12:30 p. m. and 3 p. m. with eliminations schedule to begin Sunday at 11 a. m.

Johnson to visit Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base. Tommy Johnson and Top Fuel team- mate Brandon Bernstein will visit soldiers at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma Thursday, July 17.
