SCELZI IS NO. 6 IN SONOMA QUALIFYING
SONOMA, Calif. (July 28, 2007) - Four-time NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series world champion and Fresno, Calif., native Gary Scelzi nailed down the No. 6 spot in Funny Car qualifying for the Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals.
Scelzi drove the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T to his quickest pass of 4.788 seconds at 321.27 mph in the cooler Friday-night session.
In other rounds, he recorded a 4.987/308.57, a tire-smoking 7.278/111.68, and a 4.921/309.91 in his final attempt during the heat of the day.
"Three out of four's not bad," he said. "That was like the third quickest of that last round. So, we're right in there. I think we can race tomorrow.
"Zippy (crew chief Mike Neff) likes what he's seeing on the computer. I think we've got something to play with."
Scelzi faces Gary Densham in the opening round of eliminations on Sunday.
