Sampey's provisional national record setting pass of 6.939-seconds on Friday held up through a third round of qualifying on Saturday. As a result, she pocketed her second pole of the year and the 39th of her career.
The Louisiana resident will take on 16th-place qualifier, Tom Bradford, in the opening round of eliminations beginning at 11 a.m. EDT.
"Being as far behind as we were going into this weekend (in third-place, 98 points out of first), I felt I pretty much needed to run the table and get the 138 points that goes along with that," she said. "Obviously, that would go a long way in getting me back into serious contention for the championship."
Brown could not improve on his Friday qualifying performance and in the process dropped a couple of spots in the final line up.
"I don't know what's up with my U.S. Army Suzuki," he said. "We should be performing similar to Angelle. We're going to swap out engines tonight and be set for race day."
The New Jersey native, who entered the weekend eight points behind leader, Andrew Hines, in the standings will confront sixth-place qualifier, Steve Johnson, in the first round on Sunday.
"The pressure is on and we all have to go out and do our jobs," he added. "I'm looking forward to the challenge."
