Rowe Lands in No. 3 Spot at Motor City Nationals with Stout 6.11

MILAN, Mich. (July 8, 2006) - One of his best runs of the season landed Danny Rowe in the No. 3 spot at the conclusion of Pro Mod qualifying Saturday for the IHRA's Suzuki Motor City Nationals, which featured a mammoth field of 36 Pro Mod drivers attempting to reach eliminations.

On his third and final qualifying attempt, Rowe and crew chief Jimmy Rector combined for a 6.119 at 231.24 mph in their blown '63 Corvette to jump up to the No. 3 spot, trailing only Rick Distefano (6.088) and Mike Janis (6.111). Rowe will open eliminations Sunday against No. 11 qualifier Quain Stott, who is coming off a win two weeks ago at the IHRA event in Edmonton.

"We're just really excited; that was a great run, given the conditions at the time and our goal of moving into the very top part of the field," said Rowe, who improved from a 6.15 best set earlier in the day. "All the credit goes to Jimmy and the crew. There is a huge field here, and the entire team - Jimmy, the crew, our marketing partners at Hoosier Tire, Weld, and Red Line Oil - came together to put me in the No. 3 spot. Plus, it's Jimmy's birthday, and I feel like this was a nice present for him."

Rowe entered the Motor City Nationals in fourth place in the IHRA Pro Mod points standings, trailing only Glen Kerunsky, Tommy D'Aprile, and Stott. All three of those drivers also qualified for Sunday's eliminations at Milan Dragway.

The huge field and some big numbers (the bump spot was a 6.20) combined to keep many Pro Mod hitters below the line when qualifying concluded Saturday. Among the non-qualifiers were Alan Pittman, Burton Auxier, and Kenny Lang - all in the top 15 of the points standings - and class veterans such as Steve Vick, Charles Carpenter, Billy Harper, Harold Martin, and Chip King.

Eliminations in all pro classes at the Motor City Nationals are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. local time Sunday.
