Rowe Continues Climb up IHRA Standings with Final-Round Finish

MILAN, Mich. (July 9, 2006) - Danny Rowe's steady climb up the IHRA eMax Drag Racing Series Pro Mod points standings continued Sunday at the Suzuki Motor City Nationals, where he fell just shy of scoring his first career IHRA Pro Mod event win but jumped from fourth to third in the points race.

After qualifying No. 3 in a 36-car field Saturday, Rowe, driving a '63 Corvette tuned by Jimmy Rector, won three eliminations rounds on Sunday before coming up just short against Mike Janis in the final, 6.18 to 6.20. The margin of victory in the final, which was close the entire length of the track, was .035-second.

The final-round appearance, his first on the IHRA circuit, moved Rowe to third in the Pro Mod points standings, trailing only three-time finalist Glen Kerunsky and Edmonton winner Quain Stott. Janis, the series' 2004 champion, moved up to fourth place following his first event win of the season. The IHRA has completed five events of its 11- race schedule for 2006, with events upcoming in Toronto (July 21-23) and Martin, Mich. (Aug. 4-6) that will complete a busy four-events-in- seven-weeks span.

The Rowe-Rector combination was strong all day Sunday. Rowe opened with a 6.12 to knock Stott out of contention for a second straight event win; ran a shut-off 6.35 to win in the quarterfinals versus Shannon Jenkins, who had a wounded car and merely waited at the starting line hoping for a red-light from Rowe; and clinched his spot in the final with a 6.18 to oust Scott Cannon Jr.

With the exception of the rain-shortened event in Rockingham, Rowe has qualified in the top half of every IHRA Pro Mod event this season and gone on to win at least one round in eliminations. He has also put together a solid season on the NHRA's Pro Mod Challenge tour, where he currently sits in sixth place in the points standings despite missing two consecutive events.

Next up for Rowe and his Red Line Oil Corvette will be the IHRA Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park, July 21-23.
