NORWALK, Ohio - In an era where 'throwback' uniforms are all the craze in stick and ball sports, a 'throwback' sponsor from drag racing's past will reenter the Nitro Funny Car ranks during this weekend's IHRA SKULL Gear World Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. Rislone Engine Treatment, who once sponsored many drag racing entries such as the famous "Chi-Town Hustler" Funny Car in the '70's, will make it's return to professional drag racing as the major sponsor of the J&B Motorsports Nitro Funny Car driven by Paul Lee.
Rislone was acquired by another familiar drag racing sponsor, Bar's Leaks in May. Bar's Products VP of Marketing Clayton Parks is excited about bringing Rislone back into drag racing.
"Rislone is a product that many of us racers, actually anyone who drives an automobile, have grown up with," said Parks. "We're proud to bring this great brand name back into drag racing."
Team owners Jeff and Bonnie McGaffic, of Aliquippa, Pa., are looking forward to representing a company with a rich history in motorsports like Rislone.
"Anytime you get to represent a quality product like Rislone, that has a deep history in motorsports, it's a real honor," stated Jeff McGaffic. "Communication with the people at Bar's Leaks was great, and we were able to react to Rislone's needs. We're unveiling the car this weekend at Norwalk, and are focused on doing a good job for Rislone and Bar's Leaks."
Team driver Paul Lee, a classic funny car enthusiast, is also excited to wear the Rislone colors into battle.
"I cannot express how excited our team is to represent Rislone and Bar's Leaks," commented Lee. "I remember like it was yesterday watching the Rislone Chi-Town Hustler of Austin Coil and Frank Hawley. The Rislone Chi-Town Hustler story is legendary. Now, thanks to a great company with great products, we get to pull up to the starting line in our Nitro Funny Car that is now painted in the famous Rislone colors. We'll do our very best to represent them well."
The team will unveil the new look paint scheme on their Chevy Monte Carlo prior to Friday qualifying in Norwalk. The team will run the remainder of the IHRA tour, in addition to stops on the NHRA tour in Indy for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, Reading, Pa., and Richmond, Va.
The flagship Rislone product is Rislone Engine Treatment. America's best-selling engine treatment has been enhancing automobile engine performance for more than 75 years. It removes engine-damaging sludge, varnish and deposits from valves and lifters, as well as ring and piston grooves to restore and equalize compression in all cylinders, returning lost engine power. Other Rislone products include Rislone Ring Seal and Rislone 2-Cycle Engine Oil.
